If I’m a Cavs fan, I’m begging Dan Gilbert and his creepy little kid to take Derrick Williams. Why? He’s going to be a superstar. Although Kyrie Irving has the potential to be a top point guard, I think the new D-Will is one of a kind at his position in this draft. He has the ability to play the three and the four and, as you saw against Duke, he rises to the occasion. Yes, this has become a point guard heavy league but there’s no way you can pass on Williams. What’s to say Irving is going to be better then a guy like Kemba Walker?..or even Brandon Knight?..both of whom will more then likely be available at number 4.
I don’t know about you Cleavland, but I just get a Greg Oden vibe from Irving. Oden missed a lot of time during his freshman year, as did Irving, and it was supposed to be just a one time thing. Funny how that worked out. The Oden pick was almost on potential and I think when you’re picking number 1 you take the shoe-in. That’s what Kevin Durant was and it’s paying dividends for Seattle/OKC. I’m not saying Derrick Williams will be Kevin Durant, but not only does he play like a superstar, he acts like a superstar.
Also, if you take Irving number 1 you’ll probably end up with a foreigner number 4 because taking two point guards is foolish….unless you’re Minnesota. Nothing against those overseas ballers’, but they just sketch me out. You could end up with Dirk or get stuck with Darko who, contrary to belief by Roberto, was a huge bust. If the Cavs pick Kemba and D-Will, along with J.J. Hickson, trade chips of Antawn Jamison and Baron Davis, and a looming first rounder next year (Harrison Barnes, Jared Sullinger anyone?) they could be Thunder-esque in a few years…or Gilbert can screw everything up again, leading to a decade of misery for these sad, pathetic Cav fans.
Just thought of this…how great would it be if he wore #23? If that’s not an f-you to Lebron then I don’t know what is.
